Bidding Modes

Three bidding modes determine the method of shift bidding.

Mode 1

Standard

Each employee has a set number of hours to bid before the next employee in the list can bid. This number of hours is set by the administrator. The bidding schedule is set from the start and will not change regardless of how quickly an employee makes his or her choice.

Mode 2

Sprint

Similar to Standard, except each employee's bid timer begins as soon as the previous employee makes his or her choice.

Mode 3

Ranked

Every employee can bid immediately, ranking the shifts in order of preference. Based on your current settings, bidding ends for everyone after a set number of hours after bidding starts. When bidding ends, administrators can see the final results where all employees have been assigned.

Employees at ABC Corporation each get 24 hours to make a shift bid selection. John is first in the bidding order and has 24 hours to make his preferred selection. Five hours into the session, John makes his selection. However, it will not become Kathy's turn until the remaining 19 hours for John have elapsed.

Employees at ABC Corporation each get 24 hours to make a shift bid selection. John is first in the bidding order and has 24 hours to make his preferred selection. Two hours into the session, John makes his selection. It now becomes Kathy's turn immediately, but she also gets 24 hours to decide.

Employees at ABC Corporation get 4 days to decide which shifts they would like to work, and they mark their preferences for a set of shifts. ABC Corporation gives preference to each shift by seniority. So, at the end of the 4-day bidding period, ShiftBID automatically runs the calculation for all employees and returns a bid result to the administrator.
